Proud to Be a Black Woman

I have always been proud of who I am- my race, my ethnicity, and my gender. Tonight, I could not be prouder! History has been made for black women during this election. We have been labeled many things over the years including angry, useless, incompetent, ugly, and the help, but our day has come.

Today, we are not angry. Today, we are not useless. Today, we are not incompetent. Today, we are not ugly. Today, we are not the help. It is difficult to remain confident when daily reminders constantly remind you how the world sees you as different and less than others.

This milestone has encouraged me just like Rosa Parks and Ruby Bridges. It has encouraged me to leave my impression on the world in my own way.

This, I will do. To my sistas, keep your head up, keep pushing, and leave a stamp for the future sistas!
